Classical music festival Darbar launches dance programme
A series of performances curated by renowned contemporary dancer Akram Khan kicks off tomorrow at London venue Sadler's Wells
Over the past ten years, the Darbar festival has brought musical masters and emerging artists from the Indian subcontinent to London.
This year, for the first time, dance venue Sadler's Wells will host its own programme, curated by its associate artist Akram Khan. It will merge displays of traditional dances such as bharatanatyam and kathak with musical and percussion performances and masterclasses.
The line-up will include an appearance by Khan himself, who will retire from performing full-length pieces after a tour of a solo contemporary piece, Xenos, next year.
In the podcast below, he talks more about what you can expect from the event.
