Bangladesh from above: “I am fortunate enough to see my roots from a different perspective”

Pilot Shamim Shorif Susom’s stunning photographs capture rural Bangladesh from the sky

As a pilot, Shamim Shorif Susom spends a lot of his time looking at Bangladesh from above. In this series of photographs (below), he captures this viewpoint – revealing the verdant landscapes of his country as a bird might see it. For Susom, it's a way of connecting with his rural roots, even as his career takes him from city to city – a “never-ending quest to look for my past, a piece of green, a portion of my childhood”. “I am fortunate enough to fly, and fortunate enough to see my roots, my village, my urban life from a different perspective.”
